Celebration of Light returns to Vancouver with Canada, Japan, Spain

We now know which three countries will be duking it out in the skies over English Bay when one of Vancouver’s biggest summer events returns this July.

The Celebration of Light will feature Canada, Japan, and Spain.

The fireworks festival and competition had been cancelled for the past couple years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The yearly three-day event usually draws hundreds of thousands of people to Vancouver’s shoreline.

Akariya Fireworks from Japan will be first to dazzle spectators on July 23. Team Canada, Midnight Sun Fireworks, will follow on July 27, and Pirotecnia Zaragozana from Spain on July 30.

The Celebration of Light has been running for over 30 years.

The last time the fireworks show went ahead, in the summer of 2019, Canada, India, and Croatia all took part. Team Canada came out on top to sway the judges, with Team Croatia — which made its debut at the annual event, being named the People’s Choice winner.
