A small elementary school in Vancouver’s west side is permanently closing after a vote came from the Vancouver School Board Monday evening.
At the beginning of the year, during a Special Board meeting, the board presented a report recommending a French-immersion Queen Elizabeth Annex close permanently.
The idea has been considered four times since 2008. But the board made it official Monday, voting to close it June 20, 2023.
“School closures are difficult conversations and the decision to close the school was not made easily,” Board Chair Janet Fraser said. “Recognizing there may be many questions from the impacted school communities, District staff will immediately begin to work with impacted students, families and staff to support a successful transition ahead of the move in September 2023.”
The motion: That the Board of Education approves the permanent closure of Queen Elizabeth Annex effective June 30, 2023. passes

District staff will let families of current QEA students know where their children will be relocated starting in the 2023/24 school year.
