Burnaby shooting leaves one in hospital

A man is in the hospital after a shooting near Edmonds Community Centre in Burnaby.

RCMP were called shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday to 19th Avenue and Humphries, where officers found a 19-year-old man suffering what’s believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital. Mounties say that person is not cooperating with their investigation.

“Witnesses reported a dark-coloured vehicle leaving the area before police arrived. A short time later, a similar vehicle was located on fire in North Burnaby,” RCMP said in a statement.

Police don’t believe this shooting is related to gangs in the Lower Mainland.

“This type of event can be frightening for everyone,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj with the Burnaby RCMP said. “However we do not believe this targeted attack poses any further danger to the public.”

Anyone with dashcam footage between 11 p.m. and midnight is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
