Vancouver Folk Music Festival makes return after two-year hiatus

A local summertime staple is making its post-pandemic return this weekend, two years since the last event.
Artistic and Executive Director Debbi Salmonsen, with the festival, says a lot of emotions come with the return.
“It feels both exciting and a bit nerve wracking because we haven’t done it for a couple of years,” said Salmonsen. “We’re glad the community embraces and is returning to the show.”
Salmonsen says she is thrilled for this year’s lineup, with some notable acts appearing on the stage.
“I’m really happy that we got people like Taj Mahal, who is a legend, as well as having some great emerging artists,” she said. “‘I’m really excited about Richard Inman, who is an Indigenous artist from the Prairies who’s joining us.”
“So with all of the 37 acts, we’re excited about them all and it’ll just be so great to be back at the beautiful Jericho Beach Park,” she added.

Salmonsen says that the festival has new practices to adjust to a reality with COVID-19.
“I think the big difference this year is that while we’ve lifted vaccine mandates, we are still practicing that solid disease control plan. So we have more porta potties, more frequent cleanings, more spacing on site, we’ll have masks and sanitizers available to those who’d like to avail themselves of them,” she said.
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is being held Friday through Sunday at Jericho Beach Park.
