Two suspects arrested in Saanich dating app extortion

Saanich police have arrested two suspects wanted for extortion that took place over a dating app.

Police say the suspects created a profile on Grindr and arranged to meet their victim in July.

As they talked over the app, they obtained personal and private information about the victim. They followed that up by arranging a meeting with the victim.

When they met, police say the suspects used the information they gathered to threaten and extort more than $2,500 from the victim.

“We are concerned that there may be other similar incidents that have yet to be reported,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.
