Metro Vancouver gas prices jump over $2/l amid supply squeeze

Gas prices around Metro Vancouver are back up past the $2 mark for a litre of regular.

Some stations were posting around $2.03/litre Wednesday morning — the first time in months we’ve broken past the $1.90s.

While some drivers may be in sticker shock, experts had warned this was coming.

“Gas prices seem to have moved a bit sideways last week. Up in coastal markets and down in others, but we do have some perhaps short-term challenges that lay ahead,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a weekly update Monday.

He went on to say that coastal areas “continue to see increases as unexpected refinery issues continue to percolate, preventing a downward move.”

Prices for a litre of regular had been hovering around the $1.95/litre mark in some areas of Metro Vancouver Monday. Prior to the jump into Wednesday, prices had remained in the low-to-mid $1.90s for several weeks, with some areas seeing the high-$1.80s at the pump.
