B.C.’s first baby of 2023 is a girl

The province of British Colombia welcomed its first baby of the year, and it’s a girl!
The province announced in a tweet that the baby girl was born just a little after midnight, weighing in at five pounds and 10 ounces.

She was born at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
The location might come as a surprise to most PlayNow.com bettors who wagered that B.C.’s first birth of the year would most likely take place at a Lower Mainland hospital, saying that the “no surprise” favourite is B.C. Women’s Hospital with 3.50 odds.
Other likely prospects were Surrey Memorial and Royal Columbian Hospital, the latter winning the honour in both 2019 and 2020.

Days before New Year’s Eve, the gambling website called on bettors to wager on which B.C. hospital will deliver the province’s first baby in 2023.
In 2022, B.C.’s first baby was a boy and was born at 12:04 a.m. at the Victoria General Hospital weighing six pounds and six ounces.
