Squirrel causes North Vancouver power outage

A squirrel caused a power outage for over 9,000 BC Hydro customers in North Vancouver Saturday morning.

In a statement, BC Hydro told CityNews, that the squirrel managed to enter a substation where it took out a few circuits that caused the outage.

“Once our crew helped the squirrel exit the facility, we were able to restore power to the customers,” BC Hydro said.

According to the company, there were 9,030 customers impacted by the outage. The power outage started at around 10 in the morning, lasting for almost two hours. BC Hydro says the service was restored at 12:15 p.m.

BC Hydro has tips for power outages and storm safety on its website. Those who see a downed powerline are advised to call 911.
