City of Vancouver warns of parking scam

Vancouverites are being warned of a scam that is targeting people via text message.

The City of Vancouver says it has been notified of a scam where people receive a text stating that they have an overdue parking ticket.

This is the second time the city has issued a warning about the texts, after its initial alert in December.

An example of the message shared by the city shows a message suggesting “you have an unresolved offence,” with a deadline at which to resolve it.

The message goes on to say that an “invoice” will be sent within an hour.

The City advises that these messages are not from them.

“We do not notify the public of fines through texting, media or social media,” the city said.

People are being warned not to click on any links sent to them, and not to provide any payment information.

Those who receive such a message are advised to report them to their cellphone provider and delete them.
