BC United set to officially enter the political arena Wednesday

You’re going to be able to vote for a new political party in the next provincial election in B.C. Well, sort of.

The BC Liberal Party is set to become BC United officially Wednesday night at a ceremony in Surrey.

Leader Kevin Falcon is expected to introduce the new name, logo, and branding.

The BC Liberals have said the name change will mark a new beginning for the party. Political experts also noted a big change like this could be effective.

However, Falcon will have a lot of work ahead of him if he wants to become premier.

The latest poll from the Angus Reid Institute shows a little more than 20 per cent of voters have a favourable view of the leader.

The survey also shows the BC NDP has the support of 45 per cent of polled voters, while the Liberals — soon to be United — have the backing of 31 per cent of those polled.

The results come as the non-profit finds that at least two-thirds of respondents say the BC NDP is “doing a poor job of handling the cost-of-living crisis, health care and housing affordability.”

“On the other, Premier David Eby remains popular, and his party holds a comfortable and continuing lead in vote intention. Eby entered his post at an opportune time, taking over a $5.7-billion surplus, which has allowed the government to announce a plethora of spending priorities,” the institute said.

However, the Angus Reid Institute did make the distinction that when it comes to addressing challenges in the province, voters may trust the NDP to guide them out of them, or “they see no current alterative that they prefer.”

“This consistent advantage for the B.C. NDP has the party in good shape if an election takes place this year.”
