New Westminster shooting leaves one hurt, suspects arrested outside hospital

A police presence near Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster Tuesday was part of an investigation into a shooting that left one person hurt, authorities say.

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says the shooting happened around noon on Carnarvon Street near Lorne Street in the city’s downtown core. Two suspects were arrested near the hospital a short time later, officers say.

Callers told CityNews around 10 police vehicles were in the hospital’s parking lot around that time.

Police spokesperson Hailey Finnigan tells CityNews the shooting left one person with non-life-threatening injuries.

“This investigation is in the early stages. If anyone witnessed what occurred on Carnarvon Street and haven’t yet spoken to police, they’re asked to call our Major Crime Unit investigators,” she said.

She adds it’s too early to tell if the incident was a targeted attack.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call 604-529-2430.
