Metro Vancouver gas prices hit $2/litre mark Sunday

Drivers around Metro Vancouver were in for a bit of a shock Sunday as the price of gas at some stations hit the $2 per litre mark.

A few stations were spotted touting the $2 per litre mark, but they were in the minority.

Although arguably still under the two-buck mark, several stations also boasted prices of $1.99 per litre, according to GasBuddy’s tracker.

Others were spotted in the range of $1.95 -$1.96 per litre.

The increase may not be a surprise to some, as a petroleum analyst spoke with CityNews last week about the potential rise.

“There’s a wide range of possibilities this summer that could ultimately happen, but we may see prices touch $2 a litre if some of those exceptional events that aren’t expected, come to pass,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said.

De Haan stresses that there are a myriad of factors that could further affect gas prices, as we move into the summer months.

“There could be things like hurricanes and refinery shutdowns that push prices ultimately higher. And of course, there’s a lot of different directions that the economy could take,” he said.

Gas prices typically see a bump in price over the weekend, so drivers may be able to fill up at a lower cost come Monday.
