Vancouver fire leaves 1 seriously hurt: VFRS

Fire crews in Vancouver say one person has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a fire Monday morning.

The Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (VFRS) says officers were called to the building near East 6th Avenue and Fraser Street just before 5 a.m.

VFRS says first responders found the man hurt outside of his unit which had the fire, and say it was caused by “open flames which ignited combustibles.”

The smoke alarms were not operational, VFRS notes, adding the building’s sprinkler system “contained the fire.”

The 34-year-old man was treated on the scene for his injuries and was taken to Vancouver General Hospital.
