Vancouverites react to Taylor Swift skipping the city in latest round of tour dates

It looks like Taylor Swift got the Prime Minister’s message. She is coming to Canada, but she’s still ignoring Vancouver.

The superstar singer announced her latest round of tour dates on Thursday, this time bringing six rounds of her Eras Tour to Toronto — apparently the only city she doesn’t have bad blood with.

CityNews took to the streets of Vancouver to ask locals about their feelings on being skipped yet again on Swift’s record-setting tour and whether or not they would make the trip to Toronto for the show.

“I’m not going to Toronto, too far,” one local said, while others didn’t seem to mind the distance.

“Definitely wanna go see her … I love Taylor Swift. She’s great.”

“I went in Seattle, I think I’m gonna go to Toronto … I want to.”

“Maybe, we’ll see. I spend a lot of money on concert tickets, so we’ll see how much it is.”

Meanwhile, although much has been made about the positive effects the Eras Tour can have on a city’s tourism sector, BC Restaurant and Food Services Association President and CEO Ian Tostenson says he isn’t losing any sleep over being skipped.

“It would be nice,” he said. “We’ve got a lot to look forward to with the concerts and events, our schedules in Vancouver are pretty full right now.”

“We’re disappointed that we don’t have that extra business absolutely, for sure … we’d love it. But … without it, it’s not going to collapse the industry.”

Rogers Communications is presenting Swift’s six Toronto dates with three shows at Rogers Centre from Nov. 14-16, 2024, and then three more shows at the venue the following week from Nov. 21-23, 2024.

Verified fan registration is now open for the Toronto dates, and fans can register until Saturday at 5 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, Aug. 9, and only fans that receive an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for the Verified Fan Onsale. More information can be found here.

Minutes after the announcement went live, Ticketmaster reported “heavy traffic” on their Verified Fan webpage, which the platform says is meant as a protective measure against online scalper bots.
