Mounties in B.C. say a 14-year-old from Alberta is dead, and three other youths are hurt, after two jet skis crashed on a lake Friday evening.

According to the BC RCMP, Mounties in Penticton were called to Skaha Lake around 8 p.m.

Mounties say “two jet ski water craft” collided in the middle of the lake, resulting in serious injuries to all four youths.

They were taken by boat to the Skaha Marina, where two off-duty doctors, and BC Emergency Health Services personnel “attempted life saving measures.”

The youths were then taken to the hospital, but Mounties say one girl died from her injuries.

The three other youths were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released from the hospital.

“The family is being supported by RCMP Victim Services and arrangements are being made to assist them in returning to Alberta. Penticton RCMP frontline officers have taken lead on the investigation with the assistance of RCMP West Coast Marine Services,” a news release reads.

Mounties say criminality and alcohol are not believed to be factors of the crash.
