PNE to honour Red Robinson with special event

By Emma Crawford

The PNE has announced it will be celebrating the life and career of a legendary former Vancouver radio DJ and broadcaster at a special event Aug. 31.

Red Robinson Day, set to take place on the 66th anniversary of a famous Elvis Presley concert that Robinson hosted, will include a performance by Elvis tribute artist Terry Aaron Wong, a classic car show, a video tribute and a memorabilia booth featuring items such as Robinson’s CKWX jacket.

The day will also include a bench dedication, which will remain as a permanent fixture to commemorate his contributions to the fair.

Robinson began his career in 1954 as a DJ when he was just a teenager. He went on to host several Vancouver concerts headlined by artists including the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. He continued working for more than six decades until he retired in 2017.

Robinson passed away April 1 at the age of 86 after a brief illness.
