Massive Surrey house fire sends thick smoke into the air
A huge Surrey house fire Friday morning sent thick black smoke into the air as firefighting crews tried to knock the blaze down.
The fire, on 115th Avenue just east of 125A Street, in the city’s Bridgeview area of Surrey could be seen from the neighbouring areas.

Drivers along the Patullo Bridge were being warned of a visual distraction, as the fire and smoke could be seen from the bridge deck.
Speaking to CityNews, Surrey Fire Department Asst. Chief Greg McRobbie says crews were called out to the house at about 6:15 a.m.
“When crews arrived they found a two-storey residential structure, heavy smoke and flames,” he said. “Initially, we sent 16 firefighters, and it was upgraded to a second-alarm fire to 24 firefighters.”

McRobbie explains crews are “wrapping up” and putting out any hot spots, but shares that all residents of the house were evacuated before crews arrived.
No injuries have been reported, however, McRobbie says a next-door neighbour was helped out of their house as smoke was beginning to “impinge” on their house.
The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
