Metro Vancouver gas prices dip heading into long weekend

If you’re planning on refuelling your vehicle ahead of a long weekend road trip, you may be able to do so at a slightly more reasonable price.

Gas prices around Metro Vancouver Friday morning have dipped below $2 per litre. According to the website GasBuddy, prices as low as $1.92 for a litre of regular can be found in Langley. In Vancouver proper, $1.94 is the lowest price listed.

This is a stark contrast to the beginning of the week when prices in the region were seen as high as $2.14 per litre — the highest level seen in months.

At the time, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan, attributed that rise to an outage at an oil refinery in Los Angeles.

“That’s not only having implications on gas prices in Canada and the U.S. but through the region. Until that refinery issue can get cleared up, unfortunately, it is having a negative impact on the wholesale price of gasoline,” he told CityNews on Monday.

De Haan added that those in Metro Vancouver should expect the price at the pump to remain above $2 per litre heading into the fall.

The analyst wrote on the gas website on Tuesday that North American drivers could expect a slight drop in the price heading into the Labour Day weekend. However, he noted that “bumps may lie ahead.”
