Some relief is on its way for Peachland wildfire, officials say

Wildfire crews near Peachland are expecting a bit of relief Tuesday, with cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and lower winds lending a hand as they battle the Glen Lake fire.

However, Kirsten Jones with the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre cautions the fire is still very much active.

“There’s continuing to be structural protection work in Peachland itself, so Peachland residents will notice fire crews and apparatus in their neighbourhoods, and they’re conducting advance planning for if the fire is spreading,” she said.

The perimeter of the fire increased to about 760 hectares Tuesday from 450 hectares the day before, and it is currently burning just six kilometres from Peachland itself, she said.

Jones says residents should expect to see aircraft in the area on Tuesday.

“We had aircraft depositing retardant lines and they’re focusing again on the northeast side of the fire today with helicopters,” she said.

The Glen Lake fire is thought to be human-caused, officials say.
