The Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team has been called in after a 69-year-old man was seriously hurt in an incident involving a transit bus Tuesday.

According to Mounties, officers were called to the area of King George Boulevard and 96 Avenue for reports of “a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and transit bus.”

The circumstances around what exactly happened are not clear, though initial suggestions were that the man was hit by the bus.

The man was seriously hurt and taken to the hospital, though the exact nature of his injuries have not been released. Transit police told CityNews Tuesday the injuries were to the person’s “lower body.”

Investigators say it appears there were “several passengers on board the 321 bus and waiting at the bus stop when this incident occurred.”

The RCMP is asking for these people to come forward.

“Anyone travelling on board the bus, or waiting at the bus stop who witnessed this incident, is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote police file 2023-177248,” said Sgt. Tammy Lobb.
