Burnaby businesses evacuated after reported armed robbery: RCMP

Mounties in Burnaby say the search is on for a suspect after reports of an armed robbery Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the area of Kingsway and 12th Avenue just before 9 p.m. When they arrived, police say “the business and surrounding area were secured.”

However, no suspects were found.

The RCMP says nearby businesses were evacuated “for safety,” adding “Kingsway was shut down for some time out of an abundance of caution.”

“Police were able to enter the building and confirm the suspect had fled the scene before police arrived. There are no injuries to report,” the Burnaby RCMP said in an email to CityNews Thursday.

The area remains cordoned off as police investigate.

Mounties say the RCMP’s Strike Force team — which is the robbery investigation unit — has since taken over the case.
