Diesel leak closes Homer Street in downtown Vancouver for several hours
The Vancouver Fire Rescue Services Hazardous Materials team says it was called out to Homer Street near East Georgia Sunday morning due to a diesel leak.
Vancouver Fire Captain Matt Trudeau tells CityNews the spill came from a leaking tank on the fifth floor of The Post building.
“On scene, (we) discovered that there was a spill that was pretty large in nature that was coming from a fifth floor area and it was leaking down into a couple of floors below that,” he said.

He went on to say that crews needed to evacuate the Loblaws City Market on the first floor of the building.
Trudeau says the Hazardous Materials team got to the site at just after 9 a.m. to deal with the spill.
As of 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Homer Street had reopened to traffic.
“8 VFRS apparatus containing the spill,” firefighters said in a post on X. “Expect delays in the area.”
A representative from QuadReal, which manages the property, confirms the onsite diesel spill.
“There are no injuries,” Hannah Wanlin, communications manager for QuadReal, said in a statement. “We are working with the appropriate authorities on remediation and clean up.”
As of 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Homer Street reopened to traffic.
