ICBC warns about traffic violation text scam

ICBC is warning people to be diligent as a new text scam circulates.

The insurer says people who receive texts about a traffic violation should “ignore or delete the message.”

The corporation notes it does “not send text messages to customers about traffic violation tickets or payment requests.”

According to an example, the fraudulent message tells the recipient that the sender’s “automated speeding system” caught their vehicle driving above the speed limit.

The text goes on to tell the recipient they can “settle (their) infraction without a court date” by visiting a link included in the message before a certain time.

People are being reminded to not respond or click on any links in messages they receive from unknown numbers.
