New West PD issues warning after criminals impersonating officers defrauded senior
Police in New Westminster are out with a warning, saying some criminals appear to be impersonating officers.
This comes after investigators say a senior was approached at home and defrauded by suspects posing as police who “manipulated her into handing over several credit and debit cards.”
Those cards were later used by the suspects to “make fraudulent purchases.”

“This is deplorable criminal activity targeting vulnerable people who badly need their hard-earned savings and pension income by exploiting their trust of the police,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver.
“I’d like to speak to these criminals directly; you should turn yourself in today.”
Police say they are interviewing people and checking CCTV to find footage of the suspects.
The department is hoping locals will spread the word and warn their family and friends about this scam. People are also being reminded that they can confirm the legitimacy of a police officer at their home by calling 9-1-1.
“Call takers will let you know if police officers have been sent to your location,” police say.
