Wildfire near Spences Bridge now being held, BCWS says

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says a wildfire around 5 kilometres north of Spences Bridge is now being held.

The service says the Drinkwater Creek wildfire was first discovered on Friday, May 24.

As of Saturday morning the the wildfire was reported to be 51 hectares in size and “out of control.”

BCWS says it is on the east side of Thompson River on the opposite side of the river from the Trans-Canada Highway.

“The wildfire is burning on a steep slope and displaying rank 3 and 4 fire behaviour, meaning a vigorous surface fire with a moderate rate of spread,” it said. “No structures are currently threatened.”

The service says three initial attack crews and response officers were sent with support from two helicopters when the wildfire was first discovered.

The fire is suspected to be human-caused.
