He was rushed to hospital with significant injuries to his head and face.
“Unfortunately, the victim’s condition is slow to improve, and his injuries will likely be life-altering,” said Const. Jason Doucette.
He tells 1130 NewsRadio that the man was struck with a blunt object. He says investigators wen to the hospital, hoping to hear from the man after he received medical attention.
“Unfortunately, his condition did not improve. In fact, it actually took a bit of a dive and we’ve not been able to get any meaningful information from him still to this date.”
Investigators believe there was some interaction between the victim and the suspect before the assault.
Police have released images of the victim’s backpack and bicycle in hopes someone will recognize them from the day of the incident.
Anyone with information to share is asked to contact the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
“There could have been some sort of minor confrontation or people raising their voices. We still don’t know, but that little piece of information could help us further this investigation and identify those responsible,” said Doucette.
