WorkSafeBC confirms it has launched an investigation into what appears to have been a workplace accident that left one person dead in Coquitlam Friday afternoon.
“The purpose of our investigation is to identify and understand the occupational health and safety factors that contributed to the incident so that similar incidents can be prevented in the future,” the agency told 1130 NewsRadio.
Coquitlam Fire Deputy Chief Chris Fox says emergency crews were called to the home, located on Southview Street near Harper Road, shortly before 4 p.m.
“Nine Coquitlam Fire personnel were joined by BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) crews and RCMP members and ensured the safety of the scene and bystanders,” Fox says.
The RCMP says it appears the incident involved a person “falling from a residence.”

Power was turned off in the area around the time of the incident, according to BC Hydro’s website.
“Power was remotely disconnected by BC Hydro, and crews on site confirmed that the area was de-energized before proceeding,” Fox.
Service was restored around 11:30 p.m., the utility’s website shows.
The cause and details of the accident are unclear.
