Children safe, 2 arrested after Terrace RCMP issue amber alert for twins

British Columbians woke to an amber alert Monday morning for three-year-old twins believed to have been abducted.

Around 1:10 a.m., the Terrace RCMP issued the alert, searching for the children, who disappeared from a home around 10 p.m. Sunday.

Around 3 a.m., Mounties cancelled the amber alert. EmergencyInfoBC said the children had been “returned to safety.”

In an update later Monday morning, Mounties explained that the children were located within 1.5 hours of the alert due to tips from the public.

“The children were located in the Burns Lake area within the suspect vehicle, and two individuals were ultimately taken into custody in relation to this incident.”

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Cmdr. Staff Sgt. Michael Bourguignon says the amber alert system worked exactly as intended.

“We are incredibly grateful for the public’s immediate attention and willingness to assist. Their vigilance helped ensure a swift and safe resolution,” said Bourguignon.
