More than 3,000 Vancouver residents lose power after crane incident brings down power lines

Power was restored to all customers around 5 p.m.

More than 3,000 BC Hydro customers in Vancouver’s Grandview-Woodlands area lost power Wednesday after an incident involving a crane, the utility says.

A crane came into contact with electrical infrastructure, causing power lines to fall, a spokesperson told 1130 NewsRadio.

The crane operator remains inside the crane for safety reasons, according to BC Hydro.

Vancouver Fire Rescue says crews are on scene due to live wires in the area. As well, it says downed lines caused some hedges to catch fire.

According to BC Hydro’s website, power was lost at 11:45 a.m.
