Residents in the Canyon Alpine and North Bend areas in the Fraser Canyon have been ordered to evacuate their homes due to the Brunswick Creek wildfire.
At 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Boston Bar First Nation was also issued an Evacuation Order for IR 4 Bucktum.
” Anyone in the affected area must leave NOW,” read the Emergency Info BC’s website.
Emergency Info BC upgraded an evacuation alert to an order around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. This order is in effect for all homes in Canyon Alpine and North Bend Electoral Area A. A list of affected residents is included on Emergency Info BC’s website.
A second out-of-control wildfire has also triggered an evacuation order near Boston Bar, already battered by the earlier-reported blaze that has forced people out of their homes.
This second fire spans an estimated 88 square kilometres, burning just across the river from the Brunswick Creek fire discovered two days earlier on July 2.
That blaze has grown to span almost 26 square kilometres, up from 18 square kilometres as of Tuesday.
Highway 1 is closed in both directions between Boston Bar Station Road and Ainslie Road North due to the blaze, DriveBC says.
Wildfire officials had been warning of the potential for increased fire activity due to gusty winds in the forecast this week.
The fires, which are believed to have been sparked by human activity, are among about 20 active blazes across B.C.
Residents are advised to monitor Emergency Info BC for up-to-date information.
