Crews called to fire on Broadway: VFRS

Early Sunday morning, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (VFRS) were called to a fire at the rear of 566 West Broadway in Vancouver.

Just after 12:30 a.m., crews arrived to heavy smoke, and firefighters upgraded the status to a “working fire,” say VFRS.

The building has two businesses on the bottom floor in the front, and apartments on the second floor accessible from the rear.

The fire was in the cockloft of the four second-floor apartments.

Residents from two of the apartments were home and had already gotten outside when VFRS arrived, while the other residents were not home.

Both sprinklers and fire alarms were activated before crews arrived on site, says VFRS.

VFRS says that crews worked throughout the night to extinguish the fire.

The apartments have been boarded up to preserve the scene for fire investigators, says VFRS.

There were no injuries to either the residents or firefighters, according to VFRS.

VFRS have deemed the fire suspicious, and it is currently under investigation.
