2 dead, 1 survived after helicopter accident near Knight Inlet

A pilot and a crew member are dead after a helicopter accident near Knight Inlet, located on B.C.’s coast about 80 kilometres north of Campbell River on Vancouver Island.

In a post to social media Wednesday, West Coast Helicopters said its Hughes 500 helicopter had been working in Loughborough Inlet for forestry operations when the incident took place.

“At 6:15 a.m., our machine went down with a pilot and two people on board,” the post said.

“One survivor and two deceased.”

Shortly before 3 p.m., the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said it was deploying a team of investigators to the area.

“The team will arrive on site Wednesday morning and will gather information and assess the occurrence,” it said.
