Off-duty RCMP officer seriously injured in collision near Cranbrook

BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) is asking witnesses to come forward after a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle near Cranbrook left the motorcyclist seriously injured.
The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the intersection of Highway 95A and Mission Wycliffe Road.
According to police, a grey Chevrolet Silverado and a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle were involved in the collision.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 28-year-old woman, was not injured.
The motorcyclist, a 39-year-old man who is an RCMP officer, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
BCHP has assumed responsibility for the investigation to ensure it remains independent.
“We need as many independent witnesses as possible, along with any dash camera video that shows the events leading up to the collision,” said Sgt. Michael McLaughlin of BCHP.
“We have already spoken to independent witnesses who stopped to help, but we need to be complete and thorough.”
Police said there are currently no indications that impairment or excessive speed were factors in the crash.
