Peter Milobar exits B.C. Conservatives to sit as Independent, citing different values

B.C. opposition finance critic Peter Milobar says he is now sitting as an Independent, exiting the B.C. Conservatives led by Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
Milobar says Findlay has earned the right to lead the party as she sees fit but it’s become clear over the last few months that his values don’t align with the new direction.
The former contender for the party’s leadership is regarded as a centrist, while the party under Findlay has undergone a rightward shift.
Milobar says in a statement on social media he’ll continue to serve the residents in his riding of Kamloops Centre, but will be sitting as an Independent, effective immediately.
He says he’ll have “more to say about the road ahead” in coming days.
Milobar says it’s not the end of a conversation “it’s the start of one.”
