A collision between a semi truck and trailer, a bus and several other vehicles shut down traffic going both northbound and southbound on Highway 99 just east of the Highway 91 interchange Friday afternoon.
According to police, a semi-truck and trailer was travelling northbound on Highway 99 when it struck three cars also travelling northbound. The semi-truck left the northbound lanes, jack-knifed and struck the median separating northbound from southbound traffic.
The semi-truck then went into southbound traffic, striking a southbound transit bus carrying about 50-60 passengers and another car.

BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) told CityNews that paramedics provided emergency medical care to a total of 13 patients. Two patients were transported to hospital in serious but stable condition, including one by air ambulance. Eleven other patients were transported to hospital in stable condition.
Surrey Police Service worked with Surrey Fire Services, BCEHS, Delta Police and the City of Surrey to manage the traffic and clear it safely.
The highway was closed until after 9 p.m. as police investigated and cars were towed from the scene.
SPS told CityNews that the investigation and cause of the collision is in its early stages; however, it appears that the collision occurred following the semi-truck and trailer crossing into the southbound lanes.
