11 years after man goes missing in the Peace Region, remains identified: RCMP

Eleven years after Raymond Chalifoux was reported missing in 2015, his remains have been located in the Peace Region of British Columbia.

The Fort St. John RCMP confirmed this week that remains found in June have been positively identified as Chalifoux.

Chalifoux went missing after leaving the Fort St. John Hospital on May 25, 2015. He left against medical advice.

At the time, a large missing person investigation was launched but he was not located.

On June 8, 2026, human remains were found along the Peace River near Old Fort, BC. RCMP and the BC Coroners Service completed an investigation of the area.

On Oct. 19, the BC Coroners Service informed the Fort St. John RCMP that the remains were of Chalifoux.

“While this is not the outcome anyone hoped for, being able to identify Mr. Chalifoux and provide answers after more than 11 years brings some closure to a long-standing missing person investigation,” said Sgt. Ian Rissanen of the Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit.

Police do not believe any criminality was involved in Chalifoux’s death.
