Abbotsford Police issue 944 tickets in Hwy. 1 construction zones, nearby roads

Police in Abbotsford say they have issued 944 tickets in the past four months during enforcement around the Highway 1 construction zones.

According to a statement from police, the Abbotsford Police Department’s (AbbyPD) Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) conducted targeted enforcement between July and October 2026 as part of an enforcement initiative funded by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.

AbbyPD focused on areas impacted by the ongoing Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Project, encompassing the highway corridor and nearby roadways.

Eighty shifts were dedicated to the initiative, and the 944 violation tickets amount to about $170,000 in fines for various traffic offences.

AbbyPD says the violations included speeding, speeding in a construction zone, disobeying traffic control devices, distracted driving involving electronic devices and other Motor Vehicle Act offences.

Along with the infractions, police took 11 impaired drivers off the road, impounded 36 cars for excessive speed, issued 11 driving suspensions, and arrested two prohibited drivers.
