VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A warning from police after you open all your presents.
Once everything is unwrapped, avoid putting anything in the garbage outside, at least not right away.
Vancouver Police Cst. Brian Montague tells us you are simply tipping off a thief. “If a thief sees a brand new box for something expensive, it’s attractive to them. Wait until garbage pick up day, recycling pick up day, and then put your boxes out.”
He says criminals don’t care that it’s Christmas and are really just looking to sell your presents to make some money. “Unfortunately thieves often have a broken moral compass and they don’t care where the presents come from, where the valuables come from, it’s just about making money.”
Montague says because all that wrapping paper, bows and ribbon aren’t going straight outside, be careful if you have pets because they could be a choking hazard.
