Vancouverite puts positive spin on ‘Neknomination’

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Last week, we told you about an extreme drinking game that is making the social media rounds in our province and around the world.
Now, ‘Neknomination’ has led to a spin-off version with a much more positive approach.
‘Neknomination’ sees friends dare each other to drink large amounts of alcohol, and post the video online. But instead of agreeing to chug down booze, Vancouver’s Julian DeSchutter used the money to buy food and coffee for the homeless on the Downtown Eastside; he posted his video to YouTube.
“That was one of the most humbling and amazing experiences I’ve had. It’s definitely something that once again reshaped my perspective, just going down there,” he says
“It doesn’t have to be the biggest thing in the world. If we all do a bunch of small acts, it will add up,” he adds.
Following the Neknomintion trend, DeSchutter has challenged his friends to do the same.
He feels the original alcohol-fuelled ‘Neknomination’ has spread so quickly, it’s now out of control.
