Dogs sick after ingesting rat poison around Strathcona Park

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – People living around Strathcona Park say someone has been spreading rat poison, and dogs are getting sick as a result.
Pete Fry with the Strathcona Residents Association says people who have plots in the park’s community gardens have noticed a man who seems to be scattering the rat poison.
“There’s been a number of dead rats showing up, and we’ve had about four or five dogs who’ve fallen quite ill. Fortunately they were larger dogs. They did get quite sick and I know at least one owner who ended up having to take her dog to the emergency when it was throwing up blood.”
Fry says there may be a reason behind the distribution of the poison.
“There certainly are a lot of rats, so maybe the guy has been living rough on the street or something. We get a lot of people camping around there, so perhaps he’s been camping and wanted to take care of the rat problem.”
The man was approached by the gardeners, but he wasn’t interested in having a discussion and walked away.
He’s described as white, 45 to 55 years old, 5’8″ to 5’10” with dark hair and a moustache. He has been seen carrying a dark bag while scattering what is believed to be poison.
