A look at the ThinkPad, MyLink and headphones at CES

LAS VEGAS (NEWS1130) – Tech junkies are gathered in Vegas this week for the International Consumer Electronics Show.

In the first day or so of CES, some hits and misses have already surfaced.

News1130 was joined by Sugar Ray Leonard, the legendary boxer who has recently developed a partnership with Monster, who announced it is getting into the gaming accessories market with a set of headphone developed with EA Sports.

Sugar Ray says he’s been a part of the EA Sports family for so long and he is very happy to take on this new role. “I’m so excited and to be involved with Monster, with all these incredible people from all different walks of life. The vision, it’s innovative and it keeps me young. That is a wonderful feeling.”

But what did he think about the new headphones? “I’m finding now that athletes in general, or artists, they’re getting younger and younger, so they are going to need something that is going to fit into their lifestyle. I think that Monster is that brand.”

Earlier we caught up with Stephen Miller with Lenovo, asking what the big trends are for his company right now.

“We see people want thinner and lighter devices everywhere they go. The next big hit is Windows 8. [They say,] ‘I want touch screen. I want the Windows 8 experience. But do I want a tablet or a PC?,'” explains Miller.

“Lenovo solves that with a product calls ‘Helix,'” he tells us.

“It looks like an 11.5″ notebook PC like any other. The difference is you can decide: Do you want a full notebook experience? Push a button on the side [and] all of the computer is actually in the screen. So, now you have a tablet.”

“But it’s not just an under-powered tablet; this is a core i processor. So, this is a full Windows experience. A true PC. All in an 11.6″ tablet,” he adds.

Miller notes you can get your hands on this product very soon. “This is market-ready. It’s shipping this quarter.”

Chevrolet is also at CES, boasting some new technology.

“The big buzz about MyLink is the connected lifestyle that it promotes,” explains Brad Wolfe with Chevrolet.

“What are we here to really announce? It’s the integration of TuneIn Radio. [It’s] your world-wide radio stations brought in through an app in your phone into the car.”

The innovation means you can easily listen to any radio station, including News1130, in your car, no matter where you are.
