VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It looks like a restaurant in Vancouver’s South Granville neighbourhood will be out of business for some time after a fire broke out on Monday morning.
Crews were called to Bob Likes Thai Food in the area of Broadway and Granville around 7:30 a.m.
“There seems to have been a fire in the kitchen-area and it went up into the walls,” Acting Assistant Fire Chief Dave Rosenlund said. “So we’ve taken the walls apart and looked for extension.”

Crews arrived on scene fairly quickly and Rosenlund said the commercial building was empty at the time. Other businesses in the building were open later on Monday.
According to firefighters, teams had some difficulties getting into the restaurant after the call came in.
“Just gaining access was a bit of an issue,” Captain Mark McKellar said. “The doors were all locked up so we had to use forcible entry to get into the building. Once we got in, we got the fire knocked out fairly quickly, and then the crews were just checking for extension to make sure it didn’t extend up into the second floor.”
I’m here at the site of an earlier fire at Broadway and Granville. Fire crews wrapping up here, say the fire likely starter in the kitchen of a Thai restaurant. Other businesses in the building are open right now. No injuries. @NEWS1130 pic.twitter.com/lTAiBp1Z9d

It’s still unclear what caused the fire, or how much the damage will cost.
