Number of deaths from COVID-19 at Vancouver’s Holy Family Hospital climbs to eight

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Eight people have now died from COVID-19 at a long-term care home in South Vancouver.
Two people died on Friday, and another on Saturday at Holy Family Hospital, according to Providence Healthcare.
“We offer our sincere condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one. Providence Health Care staff, medical staff and infection control experts are continuing to work with public health around the clock to ensure our long-term care residents and staff are kept as safe as possible,” reads a statement on the website.
An outbreak was declared at the facility on June 9.
Forty-two residents and 24 staff members have tested positive in total, according to Providence.
While restrictions on visitors have been eased, homes with outbreaks remain closed to visitors except for residents who are at the end of their lives.
“Holy Family Hospital Long-Term Care will not be able to ease visitor restrictions until its outbreak has been declared over,” says Providence.
The most recent update from provincial health officials was Friday, with outbreaks ongoing at three long-term care or assisted-living facilities and one acute-care facility.
Providence Healthcare has deferred comment to Dr. Bonnie Henry who will give her next update on Monday.
