Pitt Meadows man arrested after hitting pedestrian with vehicle: RCMP

Ridge Meadows RCMP have arrested a man with multiple warrants who fled from police and struck a pedestrian Thursday afternoon.

It happened at around 1:30 p.m. when officers were doing “proactive patrols” near 223 Street and Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.

A vehicle driven by the man took off when he saw RCMP and hit a bystander in the process, police say.

They add the man then drove through a chain link fence and over an embankment, and continued resisting arrest when RCMP caught up with him.

RCMP say it was at this point they used a “Conductive Energy Weapon” to subdue the man.

Shawn Bradley Gillam, 40, from Pitt Meadows, was arrested on outstanding warrants including uttering threats, assault, and breach of probation.

On Thursday, the following three charges were approved against Gillam.

  • Dangerous Operation of a vehicle
  • Breach of probationary order
  • Failing to stop for a police officer

The bystander hit was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
