Fire breaks out in Maple Ridge

Fire crews were battling a large blaze that broke out in Maple Ridge late Friday night.

In a release, the City of Maple Ridge says the fire sparked around midnight and was still raging until 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

The city says it broke out at a new development in the area near Brown Avenue and Edge Street and spread to the Edge On Edge II building. It adds other buildings were also damaged in the fire although it’s unclear at this point to what extent.

The fire is now under control, but crews were still in the area as of Saturday morning.

The city says that residents who are displaced by the fire are advised to head to the Greg Moore Youth Centre to register with Emergency Support Services.

A spokesperson with BC Emergency Health Services confirms that one person was taken to the hospital.

There is no word yet on what sparked the fire.

CityNews has reached out to police and fire crews for more information.
