Pedestrian killed in East Vancouver hit and run

The intersection of Nanaimo and East Hastings streets was shut down Wednesday afternoon after a pedestrian was killed in a hit and run.

Police in Vancouver say a woman in her eighties was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing the street at around 2:20 p.m.

The driver originally fled the scene, police say, but a suspect was later found and taken into custody.

BC Emergency Health Services says it had three ambulances respond to the incident just before 2:30 p.m.

The intersection reopened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact their Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.
