Suspect in custody after RCMP officer struck by vehicle in Langley

The Langley RCMP says a man is in custody after an RCMP officer was struck by a vehicle on 208 Street and taken to hospital via air ambulance.

The officer was transported to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The RCMP says the officer was conducting traffic enforcement on 208 Street at approximately 11:20 a.m. Friday morning, when the collision happened. Mounties say the suspect fled the scene heading northbound.

Police say their investigation led to a nearby address where a 22-year-old Langley man was arrested “without incident.” The suspect’s vehicle, a blue Infiniti G35, was also recovered.

The RCMP issued a thanks to witnesses, first responders, and the Langley public for their help with the incident.

“The amazing response from on duty and off-duty British Columbia Ambulance Service paramedics and members of the Langley City Fire department was incredible. Even members of the community who had been stopped in the traffic enforcement campaign graciously did all they could to assist! Given the egregiousness of his injuries, our officer’s fate likely could have been far worse if it had not been for the kindness of those who helped. It proved to us once again how lucky we are to live and work in this community,” said Officer in Charge, Supt. Adrian Marsden.
