Mission Fire Rescue Service (MFRS) says it was called to a structure fire that claimed one life on Shaw Street early Thursday morning.
First responders were called to the house, located about a kilometre north of Keystone Avenue, shortly before 1:30 a.m.
In an update Friday, the Mission RCMP says the home was “fully engulfed” in flames when they arrived.
An image shared on MFRS’ social media shows the significantly damaged structure.
Mounties say firefighters learned one of the occupants may not have made it out.
“Sadly, after the fire was extinguished, a deceased adult female was located inside,” said a statement to CityNews.
“One other male went to hospital for smoke inhalation, but no other serious injuries were reported.”
The RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit and the Lower Mainland Integrated Forensic Identification Service will be working with fire investigators to determine the cause.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
