Burger Heaven’s ‘Bun-Official Burger Poll’ counting down to provincial election

A burger joint in New Westminster is running its "B(unofficial) Burger Poll" ahead of the Provincial Election. Our Angela Bower checks out who is winning the burger poll.

Can the burgers at Burger Heaven predict the outcome of the provincial election? Patrons have a chance to order a political burger based on who they would like to win, and, as of Tuesday morning, the NDP and Conservatives were neck-and-neck, with the Conservatives trailing behind by just two votes.

It’s a standing tradition that started back in the ‘90s and is going on its 35th year, giving the community a chance to get involved in the just-for-fun vote.

“Fifty per cent are going for the party they actually want,” said Chris Geib, the restaurant’s general manager.

“The other 50 per cent just want to try something new.”

Each party has its own distinct burger with characteristics meant to represent them.

Geib says the NDP burger consists of “provolone cheese, and lots of onions to represent the unions.” The Conservative burger has blue cheese, “which represents the blue for the Conservatives.”

The Greens, represented by a burger wrapped in lettuce, are trailing in third place.

And when asked about the CentreBC and OneBC burgers…

“Unfortunately we don’t sell enough of those,” Geib said.

“It’s a mystery for us.”

He says that at the last federal election in 2025, the burger poll prediction was actually correct.

“We were surprisingly bang on,” Geib said.

“The Liberals were in the lead almost from the start, and they took it right to the end.”

Mark Carney, before winning the federal vote, made an appearance at the New Westminster burger joint. Last week, BC NDP Leader David Eby made his vote count at the Bun-Official Burger Poll.

With the provincial election right around the corner, the totals are adding up, and we will have to wait until Saturday to see how accurate the poll is this time around.

You can take part in the Bun-Official Burger Poll at Burger Heaven, located at 77 10th Street in New Westminster, until Oct. 23.
