LOS ANGELES, CA. (NEWS1130) – The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office has ruled a UBC student’s death in February was accidental. Twenty-one-year-old Elisa Lam was found dead inside a water tank on the roof of the Cecil Hotel in that city.
The coroner says she drowned and that Lam suffered from bi-polar disorder which was a likely contributing factor. A worker, who was checking a complaint about low water pressure, discovered the body.
She disappeared on a trip at the end of January and her family made a desperate plea for information.
The LAPD released surveillance video that showed a disoriented Lam hiding, crouching and acting strangely in the hotel elevator.
She was travelling in LA alone but was in regular contact with her parents in Vancouver until she vanished.
